There's a particular kind of building that seems to remember what it used to be, and 214 Station Road is one of them. Before it had anything to do with music, it was a roadside shop selling bicycles,
DIY supplies and motoring items, with Esso petrol pumps on the roadside forecourt.
Around 1956, Tori's maternal grandfather Douglas Morrell took the site on as a tenant with his brother in law Martin Harvey, helped by Douglas's father Lionel, and the two turned it into Morrell & Harvey Engineering. By the mid ig6os the building had been bought outright and extended into the workshop and offices that still stand today. The business later moved to new premises in West Byfleet, and it's still going strong, now trading as Ashtead Engineering - still family owned and run.
Tori grew up in Addlestone herself, born at St Peter's Hospital and baptised at St Paul's Church, and made two appearances in the local press before she'd even turned four, once at an NCT Teddy Bears' Picnic in Victory Park and later dressed as the Queen of Hearts at a Mad Hatters' Tea Party.
For a family that's been part of Addlestone on and off for four generations, through the engineering works, St Paul's Church and years of performance with Addlestone Community Theatre (Tori's parents Jennie & Andrew Hamel-Cooke were both in ACT's very first production, Aladdin,
back in 1980), 214 Station Studios gives a piece of Addlestone's industrial past a new purpose, at the heart of an established local music scene.
