A music space in Addlestone, run by people who've spent their careers in music and education. Here's a bit about who we are, where we come from, and what to expect at 214 Station Studios.
What we're here for
We're creating a rehearsal, recording and teaching space that's properly equipped, fairly priced, and genuinely run by people who care about music and the people who make it.
That means equipment that works before you arrive, rooms that sound good, someone on hand every time you're in the building, and a pricing structure that doesn't quietly exclude the people who most need access to a decent space.
How we work
Properly built, properly run
We've invested in acoustic treatment, quality equipment, and rooms maintained to a professional standard. Every client gets the same level of care, whatever their experience.
Welcoming and professional
A first-timer won't feel out of their depth here.
A working professional won't feel like there's something missing.
Everyone is welcome.
Learning is part of everything
Sean and Tori are both educators as well as practitioners. Every session is an opportunity to pick something up, learn something or meet someone.
Accessible in every sense
Financially, physically, and in terms of atmosphere. Some people find new environments difficult, and we've thought about how to make arriving here as low-pressure as possible.
Rooted in this community
This building has been part of Addlestone for a long time. We want 214 to be somewhere local musicians feel they belong, not just a facility they pass through.
The people behind 214
Company Director
Tori Hammond
Tori trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and holds a degree in Commercial Music from Canterbury Christ Church University. She has spent 25 years performing as a vocalist and keyboard player across Surrey and Kent, and has taught music at every level, from five-year-olds taking their first piano lesson through to HNC Performing Arts students at East Kent College, where she progressed to Programme Leader. Her teaching experience spans one-to-one tuition, BTEC and HNC delivery, community music workshops with Pie Factory Music in Canterbury, and private practice through Rock On Music Academy. She has performed at Canterbury Cathedral, the Royal Albert Hall, and BBC Maida Vale Studios. She also holds qualifications in Business Administration and has managed complex databases and grant application systems for Greenwich Hospital, the UK's largest funder of the Royal Navy and Marines.

Sean Hammond
Sean has been a working bass guitarist for over 25 years, playing in function bands, show bands, and pit bands for productions including Billy Elliot, School of Rock, Hairspray and Grease. He has worked alongside artists including Simple Minds, Status Quo, ELO, Lulu and Lemar, and performed at venues from Canterbury Cathedral to BBC Maida Vale. Since 2014 he has been a Technical Instructor and Live Sound Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University, managing professional audio facilities and delivering large-scale student productions. He trained under John Gallen, whose credits include Queen, Motörhead, Simply Red and Rick Astley. He also runs community music workshops with Pie Factory Music charity, which is maybe the part of his background that says most about why this place exists.

Our home
214 Station Road, Addlestone
214 Station Road has a longer story than most people might expect.

The Morrell family moved to Addlestone in the 1930s. Lionel Albert Morrell, Tori's great-grandfather, had served in the First World War and later ran a fish and chip business in the town. His son Douglas, born in 1923, went to St Paul's School in Addlestone, studied at Kingston Technical College in the evenings, and went on to work at Airscrew Weyroc on the nearby industrial estate as a draughtsman and inspector.

Douglas shared more than a workplace with his brother-in-law Martin Harvey. They were both keen on the water, building their own boat together and competing in the Kingston Regatta. At some point they decided to go into business, starting out with a single machine in a garage at home. When it came time to find a proper base, Lionel stepped in and helped set them up as tenants at 214 Station Road, as Morrell & Harvey Engineering around 1956.

Before the engineering business took hold, the site had a roadside shop at the front selling bicycles, DIY supplies and motoring items, with Esso petrol pumps on the forecourt. By the mid-1960s the building had been purchased, converted and extended into the workshop and office space that still exists today. The engineering business eventually moved on to new premises in 1979. The surviving (& thriving!) business is still family owned-and-run, Ashtead Engineering.
When Tori and Sean began looking for a home for 214 Station Studios, this building became the right choice. It is fantastic to bring it back into the family, and to give it a new kind of working life and to continue the family history in Addlestone.

A youth programme that creates pathways into music and the arts.
The kind of place where a teacher can build their whole practice, where a band can rehearse for years, and where a student can walk in for the first time without feeling like they've ended up somewhere they don't belong.
It also means being part of Addlestone - collaborating with local groups, providing local businesses with warm, friendly service, and evolving to create an organisation which supports music in Surrey and beyond.
